Cleveland, Ohio — Periods of light snow are expected to impact Northeast Ohio through Thursday, creating occasional slick travel conditions along Interstate 90, I-77, and surrounding roadways, especially in higher elevations of the snowbelt.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, light snow will continue today into Thursday across portions of Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania. Most areas are expected to receive less than 1 inch of snowfall, but up to 2 inches are possible in the higher terrain of the snowbelt, including areas east of Cleveland and inland from Lake Erie.

Snowfall rates are expected to remain light, but persistent snow showers may cause roads to become snow covered at times. Minor blowing snow is also possible, particularly in open areas where winds increase briefly.

Road impacts may develop during the Wednesday daytime hours and continue into Wednesday night. Cold pavement temperatures will allow snow to stick quickly, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated secondary roads along I-90, I-271, I-480, and U.S. Route 322.

The National Weather Service cautions that while snowfall totals will be modest, even light accumulations can reduce traction, particularly during periods of steady snowfall. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time.

Commuters traveling east and southeast of Cleveland toward the snowbelt should be prepared for locally worse conditions, with visibility reductions and more frequent slick spots. Areas closer to the lakeshore may see slightly lower accumulations but could still experience brief travel slowdowns.

Residents are advised to monitor forecast updates as snowfall coverage and intensity may fluctuate through Thursday. Road conditions may change quickly, especially during heavier snow showers.

Students, early-shift workers, and those traveling overnight should plan for winter driving conditions and remain alert for snow-covered roads through Thursday morning.
