Cleveland, Ohio – Dense fog has developed across much of northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania Friday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions during the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. EST for much of the region.

Forecasters warn that visibility may drop to one-quarter mile or less in some areas, making it difficult for drivers to see vehicles, traffic signals, and lane markings.

Cities including Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Toledo, and Erie, Pennsylvania are among the areas experiencing thick fog early Friday.

Drivers traveling along major routes such as Interstate 90, Interstate 77, Interstate 71, and Interstate 80 could encounter sudden drops in visibility and slow-moving traffic.

Meteorologists say the fog is widespread across northern Ohio and may linger through the morning hours before gradually improving later in the day.

Low visibility conditions can increase the risk of crashes, particularly along busy highways and during peak commute periods.

Officials recommend drivers reduce speeds, turn on headlights and fog lights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles while traveling through foggy areas.

Using low-beam headlights instead of high beams can help improve visibility since high beams can reflect off fog droplets and make conditions worse.

Commuters should also be prepared for rapid changes in visibility, especially near rivers, valleys, and low-lying terrain where fog can be thicker.

Drivers across northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania may experience travel delays or hazardous road conditions until the fog begins to lift later Friday morning.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as conditions evolve throughout the day.
