Cleveland, Ohio – Widespread rain and thunderstorms could snarl the Thursday morning commute across northern Ohio as a sharp cold front pushes east through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the front will arrive by 8 a.m. Thursday, bringing periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms, particularly along the I-71 and I-90 corridors. Temperatures are expected to fall rapidly behind the front, with highs dropping from the mid-80s Wednesday to the low 70s and upper 60s by Thursday afternoon.

Rainfall could impact school start times and slow early travel in cities like Akron, Sandusky, and Youngstown. Gusty winds may accompany storms in areas near Lake Erie, and isolated power outages are possible. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and secure outdoor items before the front moves in.

By Friday, cooler, fall-like air will settle in across the state, with weekend highs hovering in the 60s and lows dipping into the upper 40s in places like Mansfield and Marion.

Additional alerts may be issued overnight if storm intensity increases. The National Weather Service will provide updates as the system evolves.
