Cleveland, OH – Lake-enhanced snow will continue across Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania today, bringing slick roads and reduced visibility along major corridors including I-90, I-71, I-77 and I-80 through tonight.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland reports snowfall rates are expected to peak this morning, potentially impacting the early commute. Additional snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are forecast, with the highest amounts likely in the primary snowbelt areas from Cleveland east through Ashtabula and into Erie, Pennsylvania.

Northwest wind gusts between 30 and 35 mph will create areas of blowing and drifting snow, particularly along east-west roadways such as I-90 and US-20. Reduced visibility may develop quickly in heavier snow bands, especially near the Lake Erie shoreline.

Winter weather advisories remain in effect for portions of the region, with some counties under alerts through 7 a.m. Tuesday and others expiring earlier this evening. Snow-covered roads are expected at times, particularly on bridges, overpasses and untreated secondary streets.

Drivers traveling along I-77 through Akron, I-80 near Youngstown and I-79 in Northwest Pennsylvania should allow extra travel time and maintain safe following distances. Conditions may vary significantly over short distances depending on the placement of lake-enhanced snow bands.

While snowfall intensity should gradually decrease later today, lingering light snow and gusty winds could continue to cause localized travel issues into tonight. Motorists are urged to take it slow and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions, especially during the morning and evening commute periods.
