Cleveland, Ohio – Snow and sharply colder temperatures are expected to return to northern Ohio Friday through Saturday, bringing hazardous travel conditions and dangerously low wind chills across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a strong Alberta Clipper system will track through the Great Lakes, producing widespread snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches across much of northern and central Ohio. Snow is forecast to begin Friday and continue into Saturday evening, with the most persistent snowfall expected near and north of I-90, including lakeshore communities.

Travel impacts are expected along major corridors such as I-90, I-77, I-71, I-480, and US-250, where snow-covered roads and reduced visibility could slow traffic. While snowfall amounts are not expected to be extreme, steady accumulation combined with falling temperatures may make road conditions deteriorate quickly, especially overnight.

As colder air moves in behind the system, temperatures are expected to plunge. The National Weather Service warns that wind chill values between -15°F and -30°F are possible by Saturday morning, with the coldest readings occurring before sunrise. Cities including Akron, Cleveland, Elyria, Mansfield, Sandusky, and Youngstown are all expected to experience dangerous cold.

Forecast data shows overnight lows falling into the single digits, with strong winds driving wind chills well below zero. These conditions could lead to frostbite on exposed skin in a short period of time and pose risks to anyone without adequate shelter or heating.

Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and prepare vehicles for winter conditions before traveling. Drivers should allow extra time, reduce speeds, and stay informed of road conditions as the system moves through.

Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as confidence increases in snowfall and cold intensity.
