Cleveland, Ohio – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Cleveland and Cuyahoga County as lake-effect snow and strong winds continue to impact northeast Ohio, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland reports that a clipper system combined with lake-effect snow is producing periods of accumulating snow across the region. Snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected in the Cleveland area, with localized higher amounts possible. Additional accumulation through Thursday morning could bring total snowfall between 3 and 6 inches in some locations.
Early Tuesday conditions at Burke Lakefront Airport showed temperatures near 25°F, with sustained winds around 33 mph and gusts reaching 40 mph. Wind chills were near 7°F, creating hazardous conditions for those outdoors and contributing to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Snow is expected to continue intermittently through Wednesday afternoon and evening, with brief snow squalls possible. These squalls may cause rapidly changing road conditions, particularly during peak travel periods. The National Weather Service warns that travel could become difficult at times, especially on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.
The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday, covering Cleveland and surrounding communities in Cuyahoga County. Gusty winds may also lead to isolated tree damage and scattered power disruptions.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Thursday as snow tapers off and winds weaken. New Year’s Day is forecast to remain cold but mostly dry, with highs near 23°F.
Spotter activation is not expected at this time.
Commuters, students, and overnight workers should allow extra travel time and monitor road conditions closely. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution, especially during periods of heavier snow and gusty winds.
