Cleveland, OH – Northeast Ohio residents should keep umbrellas close this week as widespread rain is expected Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cleveland.

The agency reports that while scattered showers are possible Tuesday, the heaviest rainfall is forecast midweek. Many cities across northern Ohio, including Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, and Youngstown, face a 70 to 85 percent chance of rain on both Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the NWS, the highest precipitation probabilities arrive Wednesday evening and persist through most of Thursday. Erie, Ashtabula, and Sandusky counties are among the areas with the strongest rain chances. Conditions will begin to improve late Thursday, with drier weather expected by Friday.

The outlook shows rain tapering off heading into the weekend, though some communities may still see lingering showers early Friday. By Friday afternoon, precipitation odds drop to between 20 and 30 percent for much of the region.

Motorists are advised to plan for wet commutes, slower travel times, and possible standing water on roadways during the midweek period. Outdoor plans should be adjusted as storms move across the state.
