Cleveland, Ohio – Storms capable of producing damaging winds and large hail could disrupt travel and knock out power across northern Ohio before midnight Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a cold front moving through the region will trigger strong to severe thunderstorms from late afternoon into the evening. Wind gusts could exceed 60 mph in stronger cells, with hail large enough to damage vehicles and roofs. Storms may continue even after the front passes, with temperatures dropping later tonight.
The greatest impact zone includes Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, and Youngstown, especially along the I-90 and I-71 corridors where storms could intensify quickly. Drivers may encounter sudden downpours, reduced visibility below a half mile, and debris on roadways during peak travel hours.
Lightning poses an added risk for outdoor activities, and isolated power outages are possible where wind gusts peak. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
