Clay County, MO – A repeat offender convicted of multiple violent felonies will spend the next 18 years in prison following a sentencing decision announced this week by the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Clay County, Missouri Prosecutor’s Office, the sentence follows convictions for first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and assault on a law enforcement officer. Prosecutors said the crimes stemmed from a dangerous incident that unfolded on Christmas Eve.

Authorities said the defendant allegedly forced his way into an apartment occupied by a woman and her two-month-old infant while attempting to flee deputies. During a confrontation with the male resident inside the apartment, prosecutors said the armed suspect fired two gunshots. One of the bullets reportedly traveled into a neighboring apartment, raising concerns about the risk to other residents in the building.

No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire, according to officials. The defendant fled the scene but was later taken into custody by law enforcement.

Prosecutors said the case did not end there. While being held in jail following his arrest, the defendant allegedly assaulted a law enforcement officer, adding to the list of charges considered during sentencing.

The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office credited the Clay County Sheriff’s Office for its investigative work, saying firearm and photographic evidence played a key role in securing the convictions. Prosecutors also noted that the defendant’s prior criminal history contributed to the length of the sentence.

Court records list the cases as State v. Dylan Roe, numbers 23CR03841 and 23CY-CR01092.
