Springfield, OH – The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving fake calls that falsely claim to be from local law enforcement.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, multiple residents have reported receiving automated audio messages from an individual identifying himself as “Lt. Coleman” with the Civil Services Division. The recording states that the recipient failed to appear for Federal Grand Jury duty and must call a provided number to resolve the issue.

Officials confirmed the message is a scam. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office does not make such calls or request personal information, payment, or compliance through phone or recorded messages.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow safety steps:

  1. Do not call the number listed or engage with the caller.
  2. Do not share any personal or financial information.
  3. Hang up immediately if you receive such a message.
  4. Verify any contact by calling the Sheriff’s Office directly at 937-328-2560.

Authorities say the department is actively monitoring reports and working to protect the public from fraudulent activity.
