Wilmington, OH – Temperatures will fall to freezing within hours tonight, putting plants and early crops at risk across much of Ohio before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, lows will drop to between 28°F and 32°F from late tonight through 6 to 8 a.m. Wednesday, with the coldest readings expected across central and southwest Ohio, including Dayton, Columbus, and Wilmington. Even areas that remain just above freezing could still see widespread frost formation.

Cities along the I-71 and I-75 corridors, including Cincinnati and Springfield, may experience patchy frost and localized freezing conditions, especially in rural and low-lying areas. While road impacts are expected to remain minimal, bridges and untreated surfaces could briefly approach freezing.

Sensitive vegetation, including early spring crops and flowering plants, faces the highest risk during the pre-dawn hours. Residents should cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and take precautions to protect outdoor plumbing.

Temperatures rebound quickly after sunrise Wednesday, but additional advisories may be issued if another cold night develops later this week.
