Cincinnati, Ohio – Triple-digit heat index values are gripping much of Ohio through Wednesday evening, with a Heat Advisory in effect for dozens of counties including Cincinnati, Columbus, and Dayton.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, heat index values—how hot it feels factoring in humidity—will exceed 100°F for several consecutive days as air temperatures climb well into the 90s. The advisory is in place through Wednesday evening, with excessive heat warnings issued for portions of western and southern counties, including areas near Portsmouth and Lima.

Residents across Ohio are urged to stay indoors during peak sun hours, wear light clothing, and drink plenty of water. Vulnerable populations—infants, the elderly, pets, and livestock—are especially at risk for heat-related illness. Authorities emphasize the critical reminder: look before you lock your car to avoid deadly accidents.

Counties including Butler, Greene, Franklin, and Scioto are experiencing the worst of the heat. Urban centers like Cincinnati and Columbus will feel especially oppressive due to pavement and building heat retention.

Conditions may ease slightly by Thursday, but forecasters warn more advisories could follow if the high-pressure system lingers.
