Louisville, Kentucky – Nearly two inches of rain drenched northern and eastern Kentucky overnight, leaving drivers to navigate slick streets and localized flooding during the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, rainfall totals topped 1.87 inches in Louisville and climbed as high as 2.39 inches near Morehead by 8 a.m. Monday. Heavy pockets of rain pushed across Jefferson, Fayette, and Rowan counties, with up to 1.91 inches in parts of northern Kentucky and as much as 3.92 inches reported in Vandalia, Illinois, just west of the state line.

Travel delays were reported along I-64 near Louisville and Morehead, as standing water slowed traffic and made hydroplaning a concern. In Cincinnati and the surrounding counties, rainfall neared 1.30 inches, adding to flash flood concerns for low-lying areas. Residents are urged to avoid driving through water-covered roads and to monitor local advisories for additional road closures or school delays.

With saturated ground and ongoing showers, utility crews remain on standby for scattered power outages, while emergency managers advise keeping mobile devices charged and preparing for possible flash flood alerts. This marks one of the wettest July mornings so far this summer, reminiscent of the regional flooding seen in July 2022.

Rain is expected to taper by early afternoon, but further advisories are possible if storms redevelop. Stay tuned for updates as the region dries out through Tuesday.
