Columbus, OH – Residents across 13 states, including Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania, should brace for a wave of buzzing invaders as millions of cicadas are expected to emerge later this month.

The Brood XIV cicadas—one of 15 periodical broods—will surface once soil temperatures reach 65 degrees, typically in late April or early May. This specific brood last appeared in 2008 and won’t return until 2042.

The mass emergence is expected to create a loud, persistent mating call that may disrupt outdoor activities and fitness routines in affected areas.
