Light snow will taper off this morning in Rensselaer County, but slick and icy roads remain a concern for drivers. The National Weather Service advises caution for anyone traveling, as untreated surfaces may stay hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s high will reach 26°F, but strong northwest winds with gusts up to 26 mph will make it feel much colder. Drivers on local routes and highways should allow extra travel time and remain alert for patches of ice, especially on shaded roads.

Temperatures will plummet to 5°F tonight, with a wind chill dipping to -8°F. Sunday will be sunny but frigid, with a high of just 17°F. Wind chills will remain below zero during the morning hours. Breezy conditions will continue into Sunday night, with calm winds returning by Monday.

Looking ahead to Christmas Day on Wednesday, the forecast predicts partly sunny skies and a high of 32°F, offering a slight reprieve from the colder temperatures earlier in the week. Before then, additional snow showers are likely Monday night into Tuesday, possibly bringing minor accumulation to the area.

Residents are urged to bundle up, cover exposed skin, and avoid unnecessary travel during frigid conditions. If venturing out, ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and clear snow off windshields and roofs for safety.
