Hastings, NE – A dense fog advisory is in effect for portions of central, east-central, and south-central Nebraska through 10 a.m. Tuesday. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less, especially along major highways like U.S. Highway 6 and State Highway 10.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing fog could make untreated roads slick and hazardous, particularly on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Morning commuters should allow extra time, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe following distance.

The fog is expected to persist through mid-morning Tuesday, with additional fog formation possible during the evening hours into Christmas Day. Tuesday’s high is forecast to reach 44°F, with mostly sunny conditions by the afternoon.

Looking ahead, dense fog may reappear Christmas morning, with visibility dropping again from 7 a.m. to noon before skies clear. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 43°F on Christmas Day, with calm winds adding to improved conditions.

For the remainder of the week, clouds will dominate Wednesday night into Thursday, with highs in the mid-40s. By Friday, rain chances will rise to 20%, followed by sunnier conditions for the weekend, with highs nearing 52°F by Saturday.

Travelers are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and plan routes accordingly, especially if driving during peak fog times.
