Sault Ste. Marie, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for western and central Chippewa County until 1 a.m. Monday, as lake effect snow continues to impact areas near and north of M-28, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.
Forecasters say an additional 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected in localized bands through the evening, mainly north of M-28. The lake effect snow will cause rapidly changing conditions, with visibility dropping suddenly under heavier snow showers.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution on snow-covered or slick roads. The NWS warns that visibility can vary significantly over short distances during lake effect events — from heavy snow to clear conditions within just a few miles.
The advisory continues through the overnight hours, with snow tapering off after midnight. Commuters and travelers in the Sault Ste. Marie and Paradise areas should allow extra time for travel and be prepared for slippery conditions.
