Gaylord, MI – Accumulating snow will continue across northern Michigan tonight into Thursday, with the heaviest impacts expected north of the Mackinac Bridge, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord. Lake-effect snow bands are forecast to bring rapid accumulations on roads, sharp drops in visibility, and hazardous travel across Chippewa County and nearby areas.

Forecasters say the most intense snowfall will occur between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, with totals ranging from 3 to 6 inches in localized areas and higher amounts possible near Lake Superior. Winds could create patchy blowing snow, further reducing visibility during the Thursday morning commute.

The National Weather Service urges drivers to use caution, slow down, and allow extra time for travel, especially on untreated roads and bridges. Visibility may drop suddenly within heavier snow bands, and hazardous driving conditions are likely to persist through Thursday afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and local advisories as conditions evolve overnight.
