Kankakee, IL – A 6-year-old boy went missing in the Kankakee River at Beckham Park on Cobb Blvd this afternoon. Emergency services responded to the incident around 3:08 p.m. after receiving reports of a child in the river.
According to the City of Kankakee’s official statement, both police and fire departments entered the river in an attempt to locate the child. Despite their efforts, the boy has not been found. Additional resources, including specialized search and rescue teams, have been called in to assist with the search.
Local residents are urged to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to work without obstruction. The Kankakee Fire Department has established a command post at Beckham Park to coordinate the ongoing search operations.
