Wilmington, IL – A young child has died after being pulled unresponsive from a residential pool in the Deer Ridge Subdivision late Thursday morning, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.
According to a press release from the Wilmington Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:36 a.m. to a residence after receiving reports of a child who had fallen into a pool and was not breathing. A bystander had already begun CPR before first responders arrived.
Emergency personnel from Wilmington and Braidwood Police Departments, as well as the Braidwood Fire Department, took over life-saving efforts upon arrival. The child was quickly transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Joliet, where he was later pronounced dead.
Officials are withholding the identity of the child and other details at this time, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation and a request for privacy from the family.
“This incident remains an open investigation and no further details will be released at this time,” the department stated.
Authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected but are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
