Chicago, IL – Chicagoans should prepare for an extended period of stormy weather with brief intermissions over the Fourth of July weekend. A cold front moving through the area is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms tonight, continuing into early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, periodic showers and thunderstorms will persist through Friday afternoon, impacting weekend plans. However, a brief reprieve is anticipated on Saturday, with mainly dry conditions and temperatures reaching 76-82°F.

Sunday and Monday will see the return of storm chances, with late-afternoon showers expected on Sunday and a 30-50% chance of thunderstorms on Monday. Temperatures are predicted to remain seasonable, ranging from the mid-80s during the day to the mid-60s at night.

Forecasters highlight the risk of isolated thunderstorms developing along the lake breeze this afternoon and better rain chances arriving after 10 PM tonight. Areas south of I-80 are particularly susceptible to light showers this morning.
