Oak Brook, IL – A Chicago woman accused of stealing from Lululemon in Oak Brook and leading police on a 116-mph chase has been denied pre-trial release.
Cartara Johnson, 21, is charged with burglary, retail theft, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
According to authorities, on Friday around 2:30 p.m., officers saw Johnson enter the mall with a nearly empty Lululemon bag. She allegedly left the store minutes later with the bag appearing full.
Police followed her Hyundai Elantra, observing erratic driving before she entered I-88. When officers attempted a stop, Johnson allegedly sped off, reaching 116 mph and weaving through traffic before police ended the pursuit for safety.
Officers later tracked her to North Riverside, where she allegedly evaded another stop by driving onto a residential lawn. She was ultimately arrested in Stickney after crashing into construction equipment and attempting to flee on foot.
Authorities say they recovered over $300 worth of Lululemon leggings from her car. Johnson, currently on second-chance probation for retail theft, is due in court March 3.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
