Chicago, IL – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect tonight across much of northern Illinois, with snowfall totals between 2 and 5 inches expected and slippery travel conditions likely into Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the advisory begins 9 p.m. Saturday for counties including Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, and La Salle, and expands to Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake (IL), McHenry, and northern Will counties starting midnight. The alert will remain in effect through 9 a.m. Sunday.

Forecasters say snow will move in late this evening and continue overnight, tapering off around sunrise. Road conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses. Visibility could also be reduced during periods of heavier snowfall.

Motorists are advised to slow down and allow extra travel time, particularly on interstates and major routes such as I-90, I-88, and I-55, where slick spots and reduced traction are expected.

Residents can check updated road conditions through the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Getting Around Illinois website at www.gettingaroundillinois.com.
