Chicago Weekend Weather Alert: Saturday Winds May Impact Travel on I-55, Sunshine Returns by Mother’s Day

Chicago, Illinois – Strong wind gusts could disrupt outdoor plans across Chicago Saturday as breezy conditions usher in Mother’s Day Weekend. With gusts up to 30 mph expected, residents are urged to secure patio furniture and delay travel on exposed highways like I-55 until conditions settle.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs near 71°F. Winds will shift from the west to the north through the day, increasing to 20 mph in the afternoon. Gusts could briefly reach 30 mph before easing after sunset.

Sunday brings a major turnaround. Clear skies and highs near 64°F will greet Chicago on Mother’s Day, offering perfect conditions for brunches, garden walks, and outdoor family plans.

Monday remains dry with highs in the upper 60s, but conditions shift by Tuesday as a chance of showers moves in after 1 p.m. Skies will remain partly sunny with temperatures near 68°F, and showers could linger into Wednesday.
