Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service warns that parts of northern Illinois may see freezing drizzle and light snow tonight, mainly north of Interstate 80, as a wintry pattern continues through the weekend.

According to the US National Weather Service Chicago, a glaze of ice could form on untreated roads, sidewalks, and bridges overnight Friday, making travel conditions slippery into early Saturday. Wind chills are also expected to dip as low as -15°F across portions of the region, with daytime highs near 25–29°F.

Forecasters say a more widespread period of accumulating snow is likely late Saturday night through Sunday morning, with general totals between 1–3 inches possible. Lake-effect snow could linger near the shoreline into Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing through Monday, with highs only reaching the upper teens to low 20s in many areas. Motorists are advised to use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, where icy spots could develop quickly.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and allow extra travel time if heading out this weekend.
