Chicago, IL – Scattered showers and storms remain in the forecast across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana through Wednesday, bringing potential travel delays and dangerous conditions along Lake Michigan.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago, rain chances will vary widely, meaning not all areas will see precipitation. However, a high swim risk remains in effect along Illinois beaches through midweek due to building hazardous waves.
On Tuesday, storms are most likely to develop south of Interstate 80, with highs between 74 and 83 degrees. Conditions will stay unsettled into Wednesday, with a 20–40% chance of showers and thunderstorms and cooler highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. The NWS warns that swimming in Lake Michigan remains dangerous due to rip currents and large waves.
By Thursday, isolated showers may continue in northwest Indiana, but drier air will begin to move in elsewhere. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-70s, with lows dropping into the 50s.
Friday and Saturday will bring a return to calmer weather. Highs are forecast to reach the upper 70s and low 80s, with mostly sunny skies and much lower rain chances, setting up a warmer and more pleasant weekend across the Chicago metro area.
Residents planning to visit area beaches are urged to use caution and follow local advisories regarding water conditions.
