Chicago, Illinois – A stretch of cool and mostly dry weather will hold through the weekend before rain chances return Tuesday for parts of northern Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, skies will stay clear to partly cloudy through Sunday with highs only in the upper 60s to low 70s, a few degrees cooler than normal for early September. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s, especially across the suburbs.
By Tuesday, a weak disturbance could bring scattered showers, mainly north of I-88, including areas near Rockford, DeKalb, and the northern Chicago suburbs. Forecasters note the best chances will be during the afternoon and evening, with drier conditions south of the interstate. Drivers in these northern counties should be alert for wet pavement and slower commutes if the showers develop.
Wednesday marks a shift toward warmer weather, with highs climbing into the upper 70s and mid-80s, though cooler readings will linger along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Residents should enjoy the dry stretch through Monday but keep an eye on Tuesday’s rain potential, particularly if traveling across northern Illinois. Additional updates are expected as the midweek system approaches.
