Chicago, Illinois – Sunshine and seasonable temperatures will dominate the week across northern Illinois, giving way to storm chances over the weekend. Highs will rise into the 80s by Friday, with Chicago and nearby suburbs experiencing one of the warmest stretches so far in September.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, skies will stay mostly clear through Friday with highs between 73 and 90 degrees depending on the day and lows ranging from the upper 50s to low 60s. Winds off Lake Michigan will keep shoreline areas a few degrees cooler.

Saturday brings a 20 to 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening. The unsettled pattern may linger into Sunday, though extended dry breaks are expected between storms. With highs near 90 degrees on Saturday, outdoor events could feel more humid, and lightning remains a risk during storms.

Residents planning travel or outdoor gatherings this weekend should keep an eye on changing conditions, especially near the lakefront where temperatures and storm timing can shift quickly.

Rain chances ease by early next week, but forecasters say additional updates may follow if storm coverage increases.
