Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois will enjoy a breezy and unseasonably mild Saturday before a strong cold front sweeps through the region tonight, bringing temperatures back to more typical November levels. The National Weather Service says the warm spell will end quickly, with highs falling into the 40s for much of next week.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, today’s temperatures will reach the upper 60s to low 70s across the metro area—nearly 20 degrees above normal for mid-November. Gusty winds will develop through the afternoon ahead of the incoming cold front.
Tonight, colder air will move in rapidly, pushing overnight lows into the low to mid-30s. Sunday’s highs will range from the upper 40s to low 50s, marking a sharp cooldown that will linger through the week.
Monday will stay cool and mostly dry during the day, with highs near 46–51 degrees. Forecasters say the next chance for rain arrives Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Light, scattered showers are possible during the Tuesday morning commute, with highs Tuesday only reaching the mid-to-upper 40s.
By Wednesday, slightly warmer but still seasonal temperatures return, with highs forecast between 48 and 54 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Dry conditions are expected to continue through midweek.
Overnight lows throughout the period will remain chilly, ranging from the mid-20s in outlying areas to the mid-to-upper 30s in downtown Chicago.
The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare for the sudden temperature change after today’s warm weather and to stay alert for potential slick spots early Tuesday if showers align with colder surface temperatures.
