Chicago, IL – Late September feels more like July this week as Chicagoans continue to experience summer-like conditions heading into October.
According to the US National Weather Service Chicago, the region will see well-above-average highs through Thursday, with most daytime temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to near 90 degrees depending on location. Overnight lows will stay mild, ranging from the upper 40s to low 60s. The warmest conditions are expected Monday, with some areas reaching the upper 80s.
Forecasters noted that cooler conditions will occur closer to Lake Michigan, but most of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana will remain unseasonably warm. Sunshine will dominate the forecast, with only a few clouds expected midweek.
The NWS added that the next opportunity for “meaningful rainfall” may not arrive until the second week of October. That means dry conditions will continue across the region, raising concerns for parched lawns and late-season gardening but offering ideal weather for outdoor events and fall activities.
Residents are reminded to stay hydrated and plan accordingly for extended periods outdoors, especially with temperatures running well above normal for late September.
This unusual stretch of summer warmth caps off what has already been one of the hottest months of September on record for Illinois, continuing a trend of above-normal temperatures across the Midwest.
