Chicago, IL – Monday marks the final unseasonably warm day of the week across northern Illinois, with highs reaching the lower to mid-80s before a strong cold front moves in overnight.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop late Monday afternoon and evening, mainly north of Interstate 80. The front will bring a noticeable temperature drop, with Tuesday highs only reaching the upper 60s.

Rain will taper off by early Tuesday, mainly lingering southeast of Interstate 55 before clearing skies move in by mid-morning. The rest of the week will feature classic early October weather — sunny and dry with highs in the mid-60s and lows dipping into the upper 30s and low 40s.

Meteorologists say the shift marks the end of a brief warm spell that pushed temperatures nearly 15 degrees above normal for this time of year. Cooler air will settle across the region through Friday, with daytime highs hovering near 65°F and overnight lows near 40°F.

Residents should expect a breezy, cooler commute Tuesday morning and plan for a significant temperature change after sunset Monday night.
