Chicago, Illinois – Severe thunderstorms could roll into northern Illinois by late Tuesday, bringing lightning, heavy rain, and a risk of damaging winds to Chicago and surrounding suburbs through Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, scattered storms will begin developing Tuesday afternoon with a 30%–50% chance of rain, increasing to 60%–80% by Wednesday. Forecasters warn that some storms could turn severe, especially on Wednesday, with the potential for localized flooding and wind damage.
Areas most likely to be impacted include Cook, Lake, DuPage, and Will counties. Temperatures will remain warm and humid, with highs near 85–90°F on Tuesday and dropping slightly into the low 80s by Wednesday. Commuters should prepare for delays during evening rush hours and monitor road conditions, especially along I-290, I-90, and I-55. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and have a weather radio or alert system ready in case warnings are issued.
While Thursday looks drier, storm chances could return by the weekend. More updates are expected as the system approaches midweek.
