Chicago, Illinois – A warmer and wetter-than-normal March wrapped up across northern Illinois, with steady rain and limited snowfall shaping an early spring feel across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, O’Hare International Airport recorded an average temperature of 43.9°F, nearly 5 degrees above normal. Rockford saw similar warmth, averaging 42.5°F, more than 5 degrees above seasonal averages.
Rainfall was a major story throughout the month. Chicago picked up 4.54 inches of precipitation—over 2 inches above normal—while Rockford recorded just over 3 inches, also finishing above average. This consistent precipitation contributed to an active weather pattern with multiple storm systems moving through the region.
Snowfall totals told a mixed story. Chicago saw just 1.8 inches for the month, running nearly 4 inches below normal, while Rockford recorded 6.8 inches, slightly above average for March.
The data reflects a transition toward spring, with warmer temperatures and frequent rain replacing typical late-season snow.
Additional updates are expected as April continues, with shifting patterns likely to bring more active weather to the Midwest.
