Chicago, IL – The first week of October is feeling more like July in northern Illinois, with highs in the 80s and even low 90s expected through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago.

Forecasters said Wednesday temperatures will range from the upper 70s to mid-80s, cooler near Lake Michigan, before warming further into the upper 80s by Thursday. Friday is projected to be the hottest day, with highs between 85 and 91 degrees. The stretch of warmth will continue Saturday and Sunday, with most areas holding in the mid- to upper-80s.

Overnight lows will stay mild as well, mostly in the upper 50s to upper 60s, keeping mornings warmer than usual for early October. NWS noted that no rain is in the five-day forecast, leaving conditions dry across the Chicago metro, surrounding counties, and much of northern Illinois.

The unusual October heat follows a September that already brought above-normal temperatures across the Midwest. While the extended warmth may be welcome for outdoor plans, residents are advised to take precautions during peak afternoon hours, especially vulnerable populations sensitive to higher heat.

According to NWS, normal highs for this time of year in Chicago are in the upper 60s, meaning current readings are running 15 to 20 degrees above average.
