Chicago, IL – Widespread frost and below-freezing temperatures are expected across much of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
Overnight lows are forecast to range from 27°F to 37°F, with the coldest readings likely west of the Chicago metro and into interior counties such as DeKalb, Dixon, and Pontiac. Within the city of Chicago and near Lake Michigan, temperatures will remain slightly warmer, between 38°F and 43°F.
Residents are urged to cover or bring plants indoors to prevent frost damage. Sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing could be affected by the freezing conditions.
Forecasters also note that another round of frost is possible Friday night into Saturday morning, before temperatures gradually moderate heading into the weekend.
