CHICAGO, Ill. – A quick burst of showers could dampen parts of northern Illinois late Thursday, mainly near and north of Interstate 88, as breezy winds push across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a few more showers may develop Friday closer to U.S. Route 24 in central Illinois. By Friday afternoon, gusty winds will also raise a high swim risk along northwest Indiana and Chicago’s Lake Michigan beaches, making swimming dangerous.
Despite the brief unsettled weather, most of the Chicago area will see a cooler-than-normal but largely dry stretch heading into the weekend. Highs will hover in the mid-60s to near 70 degrees, with comfortable overnight lows dipping into the upper 40s and lower 50s. Skies will turn sunnier Saturday before scattered clouds return Sunday.
Drivers heading north or south on I-55 and I-57 may encounter some isolated wet roads Friday morning, but widespread impacts are not expected. Residents planning outdoor activities this weekend can look forward to quiet conditions with no major rain threats through early next week.
Cooler weather will persist into Monday, when highs climb back toward the low 70s. Additional advisories are possible if lake conditions worsen along Chicago’s shoreline.
