Chicago, Illinois – Scattered thunderstorms could impact parts of northern Illinois late this week, with the best chance for heavier rain and a few strong storms arriving Friday into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, inland temperatures will climb into the 80s on Thursday and Friday, while lakeshore areas stay much cooler, hovering in the 60s and low 70s. A few isolated afternoon and evening storms are possible Thursday, particularly north of I-80 and closer to the Wisconsin state line.
By Friday, the risk for more widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms increases, especially from Rockford to Kankakee. Gusty winds, brief downpours, and lightning are possible. Saturday brings similar chances, with a few stronger storms likely during the afternoon and evening hours across eastern Illinois.
Drivers should plan for slick roads, especially during evening commutes Friday and Saturday. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and prepare for potential interruptions to weekend events. Cooler, drier air may return by Sunday.
The next full update is expected Thursday morning, but additional advisories may be issued if storm threats increase.
