Chicago, Ill. – Flooding remains a concern across the Chicago metro Tuesday morning, even after the overnight Flood Watch expired at 4 a.m. The National Weather Service has kept a Flood Advisory in place until 10:30 a.m. and extended a Flood Warning for parts of northeast Illinois, warning drivers that roads may still be impassable during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, lingering high water is affecting Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and Will counties, especially along low-lying intersections, underpasses, and areas near swollen streams. Emergency officials caution that even shallow water can be dangerous to cross, and drivers should heed road closures rather than attempt to navigate through them.
In Chicago, Midway and O’Hare airports both reported heavy rainfall overnight, leading to standing water on some surface streets. IDOT crews have been clearing drains, but stretches of the Kennedy and Eisenhower expressways may still see ponding during rush hour. Suburbs from Schaumburg to Naperville and south into Joliet are also under advisories, with localized street flooding still likely until late morning.
Conditions are expected to improve through midday as storms push east, with drier and sunnier weather building in by Tuesday afternoon. More alerts are possible if rivers continue to rise from overnight rainfall.
