Chicago, IL – Beachgoers along Lake Michigan are being urged to use caution today as forecasters warn of a moderate to high risk for rip currents. According to the National Weather Service Chicago, breezy north winds are expected to create dangerous swimming conditions near the lake through Thursday morning.

Temperatures today will range from 68 to 77 degrees, with a chance of scattered lake-effect showers. Lows are forecast to dip into the 50s overnight.

Conditions are expected to improve heading into the weekend. The National Weather Service reports that Friday will bring partly sunny skies and highs of 75 to 84 degrees. Saturday through Monday is forecast to remain dry with highs climbing to the upper 70s and mid-80s across the region. Cooler readings are possible near the lakefront, while inland communities and downtown Chicago may see temperatures close to 87 degrees by Sunday.

For residents and visitors, this weekend will be one of the warmest stretches of early fall, ideal for outdoor plans. However, officials remind swimmers to remain cautious near Lake Michigan today due to lingering waves and currents.
