Chicago, IL – A cold snap has gripped parts of Illinois this morning, with temperatures dipping well below the seasonal norms. As of 11:49 AM, the National Weather Service reported temperatures ranging from the teens to low 20s, as much as 20 degrees below the average for early April. Woodstock recorded the lowest temperature at 16°F, with several other areas seeing similarly cold readings.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures have been unseasonably low for this time of year. Areas like Marengo, Elwood, and Shabbona recorded lows of 18°F to 19°F. While Chicago’s O’Hare Airport saw a low of 25°F, some suburbs experienced even colder conditions, making for a chilling start to the day.
The low temperatures are expected to continue through the morning, with clear skies contributing to the drop in nighttime warmth. Residents are advised to take precautions, especially in rural areas where frost might have impacted early crops or vegetation. The weather is expected to warm up later in the day, but the cold snap serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of early spring weather.
