Strong gusts and hazardous waves along Chicago’s southern Lake Michigan shore are expected through Saturday evening, posing significant risks to beachgoers and boaters. The National Weather Service warns of waves up to 10 feet, particularly affecting piers, breakwalls, and lakeshore trails, which could become partially submerged.
According to the National Weather Service, these conditions are anticipated to peak late today and will persist into Saturday night. Onlookers are urged to avoid the lakeshore, as strong currents and high waves could sweep individuals into life-threatening situations. Residents are advised to postpone boating plans until conditions improve on Sunday.
Looking ahead, isolated showers may occur north of I-80 from 4 to 8 PM today, with cooler temperatures tonight. The weekend will see breezy conditions with lake-effect showers on Saturday and clearer skies on Sunday. Warmer, drier weather is forecasted starting Monday, with temperatures gradually rising to the mid-80s by midweek.
