Chicago, IL – Chicago will experience a dramatic temperature shift Tuesday as a strong lake-enhanced cold front moves in, dropping temperatures into the 30s near Lake Michigan.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago, high temperatures Monday will be 20 degrees above normal, reaching 65-70°F. However, by Tuesday, the lakefront will see a sharp cooldown, with highs ranging from the upper 30s to low 40s near the shore, while inland areas may still reach 50-62°F.
The cold spell will be brief, as temperatures rebound by midweek. Wednesday and Thursday will see highs in the 50s and 60s, with the warmest areas south of I-80. By Friday, another warm surge is expected, with highs reaching the mid-to-upper 70s, though lake breezes will keep the shoreline cooler.
Residents near Lake Michigan should prepare for a significant temperature drop Tuesday, dressing in layers to adjust to the colder conditions. Warmer weather returns later in the week, but windy conditions Friday could bring another shift ahead of the next storm system.
