CHICAGO – Scattered showers and a few storms will move across northern Illinois tonight and into Thursday, with the highest rainfall chances generally north of Interstate 80. Drivers should prepare for wet conditions during the Thursday morning commute, with some storms lingering into the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, another cold front will push through Thursday night, reinforcing cooler and drier air across the region. Friday will bring partly cloudy skies, but forecasters warn of dangerous swimming conditions along Lake Michigan beaches due to strong currents and waves.
By Saturday, the weather pattern shifts to a more stable setup, bringing sunshine and highs in the low to mid-70s. Sunday and Monday remain dry with comfortable temperatures in the mid-70s, setting the stage for a pleasant holiday weekend. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 40s and 50s across the Chicago metro, some of the coolest readings so far this late summer.
Residents should stay alert for updated beach hazard statements Friday and limit time in the water. Rain chances taper off after Thursday, with a stretch of dry and mild days expected through early next week.
