Chicago, IL – Showers and cooler temperatures are on the way for Chicago, with overnight lows dipping into the 50s and lake-effect rain possible Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS reports that breezy north winds will keep conditions unsettled near Lake Michigan through early Thursday. A few scattered rain showers may develop along the shoreline late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, particularly for communities closest to the lake.

High temperatures on Thursday will remain seasonal, ranging from 68 to 77 degrees near the lake. However, the bigger change comes after sunset, when lows fall into the low- to mid-50s across much of the area. Cooler nights are expected to continue into the weekend.

Friday brings a turn toward sunnier weather, with highs climbing into the mid-70s and lows again dipping into the 50s. The warming trend continues into Saturday and Sunday, with afternoon highs reaching the 80s, though nighttime temperatures will still settle in the 50s to low 60s.

According to forecasters, conditions along the lakefront will remain hazardous through Thursday morning, with high waves and dangerous currents creating a risk for swimmers. After that, drier and calmer weather is expected, making for a mild and comfortable weekend across northern Illinois.
