Shorewood, Ill. – Trails and low-lying areas in Shorewood face minor flooding Tuesday as the Du Page River rises above flood stage, prompting a Flood Warning for Will County through just after midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the river measured 15.3 feet at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday and is expected to crest just above the 15.5-foot flood stage by mid-afternoon. Water levels are forecast to recede below flood stage later tonight.

Flooding impacts include trail closures at Hammel Woods and potential flooding near Clark Drive in Shorewood if levels rise closer to 16 feet. Local officials urge residents to use caution near waterways, avoid flooded paths, and never attempt to drive through water-covered roads.

The warning covers the stretch of the Du Page River from Illinois Route 59 in Plainfield downstream to its confluence with the Des Plaines River. While the flooding is expected to remain minor, officials caution that any additional rainfall today could extend or worsen impacts.

The National Weather Service will issue another update this evening. Residents are advised to monitor alerts and be prepared for changing river conditions.
