Chicago, IL – A wintry start to December is ahead for northern Illinois as another round of accumulating snow arrives Monday afternoon, followed by bitterly cold temperatures lasting through the week. The National Weather Service in Chicago warns that the Monday evening commute could be hazardous with slick roads and reduced visibility.

Forecasters expect highs Monday between 24 and 30°F, dropping to overnight lows near 10–20°F. Snow is expected to develop during the afternoon and continue into the evening, producing light to moderate accumulations across the Chicago metro area and Fox Valley region. Patchy freezing fog is also possible overnight, which could make untreated surfaces slippery by Monday morning.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, daytime highs will struggle to reach the upper 20s to low 30s, with nighttime lows dipping into the teens. Wind chills will range from -5°F to -15°F midweek as colder Arctic air settles over the region. Additional chances for light snow may develop Wednesday night and again late Friday.

The National Weather Service advises commuters to plan for extra travel time Monday evening and to stay updated on local forecasts as snow and icy conditions may impact major highways, including I-90, I-94, and I-55.
