Chicago Twin Tornado Outbreak: Twisters Hit Airport, Interstate Corridors

Chicago, IL – Twin tornadoes struck Chicago on Sunday evening, causing significant disruptions across the city. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornadoes impacted the areas from Englewood to Jackson Park and Midway Airport to Bronzeville.

According to the National Weather Service, the first tornado touched down at 10:40 p.m. and traveled 3.6 miles from Englewood to Jackson Park. This EF-0 tornado had estimated peak winds of 80 mph and a path width of 200 yards. The second tornado, also rated EF-0, hit at 10:31 p.m. and traveled 9.6 miles from Midway Airport to Bronzeville, with peak winds of 80 mph and a maximum width of 300 yards.

Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported from either tornado. The storms caused minor damage, primarily to trees and power lines, and briefly disrupted traffic on Interstate 94/90. The National Weather Service is focusing on ongoing weather conditions and will provide updates on any further severe weather events.
