Chicago: Trio Seized for High-Profile Murder After Three-Year Investigation

CHICAGO – A breakthrough hit Chicago streets as Illinois State Police arrested three suspects in connection to the 2020 murder of Carl E. Gordon Jr., whose body was discovered in the Calumet-Sag Channel. 

Illinois State Police reported Wednesday morning Jerell T. Burnett, 43 of Chicago, Antoine D. Lovelace, 44 of Elgin, and Cody J. Matthews, 29 of Morengo, now face charges including First Degree Murder.  

A nationwide manhunt concluded on September 19, with the three apprehended and $5,000,000 bonds set each. While Lovelace remains in Will County Jail, the other two await extradition. Multiple departments, from local police to federal agencies, collaborated on this investigation. The suspects, however, are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
