Kentland, IN – A 17-year-old Chicago teen was seriously injured Tuesday when a train collided with a semi-truck and her vehicle at the intersection of US 41 and US 24 in Kentland, Indiana.
According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. when a northbound semi, driven by a 36-year-old man from Addison, IL, entered the intersection after stopping at a red light. A westbound train struck the semi, pushing it into the Chicago teen’s car, which was waiting to turn. The collision forced the semi and car approximately 60 feet from the intersection.
The teen was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. The semi-truck driver was taken to IMH in Watseka. Their conditions have not been released.
The accident caused significant disruption, with the roadway closed for about seven hours as crews worked to clear the scene. Multiple agencies, including Indiana State Police, assisted in the investigation.
