JOLIET, Ill. – Lake-enhanced snow will continue to sweep across northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana through Monday morning, bringing slick roads, low visibility, and variable accumulations across the region. The National Weather Service in Chicago reports that the heaviest snow will fall east of Interstate 57 and near the Kankakee River Valley, with totals ranging from 1 to 6 inches depending on location.
Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect through Monday morning into the early afternoon, including DuPage, Will, Iroquois, Ford, Newton, and Jasper Counties, where bursts of snow could reach 1 inch per hour overnight. Areas near Bolingbrook, Plainfield, and Naperville may see 3–6 inches, while lighter amounts near Paxton and Gilman still create icy patches and reduced visibility.
Forecasters warn that commuting conditions Monday morning will be difficult, with snow-covered roads on I-55, I-57, I-80, and I-65 in Indiana. The Illinois Department of Transportation urges motorists to allow extra time, slow down, and watch for slick bridges and overpasses.
While snow intensity will taper west of Chicago by late morning, lake bands are expected to linger near the Indiana state line through the afternoon, keeping travel hazardous east of I-57.
